Ann Smith

SHINGLES
  • Age: 56
  • Children: 2 ages 13, and 16

Anne has a very active lifestyle with her children in addition to her personal activities. In her spare time, she shuffles her children to and from school and to their extracurricular activities. She enjoys attending her daughter’s debate team matches, and her son’s band concerts to name a few. All the while Ann serves breakfast, packs lunches, and makes dinner for her children and their friends. Ann’s fun does not stop there! She relishes her time playing pickleball, participating in the Junior League, and other volunteer activities.

One day Ann woke up to a burning tingling sensation on one side of her lower back and in the next few days she had an itchy, red rash that spread to the same side of her stomach that was very painful. Thinking it was a skin allergy, Ann went to the doctor only to be diagnosed with Shingles which in some cases can last months to years. Ann was shocked and did not know there were vaccinations that help protect against Shingles. Eager to get back to her busy lifestyle, she followed her doctor’s instructions, but the Shingles in her case lasted for almost 6 weeks and did put a hindrance on the activities she is accustomed to participating in however, once the rash cleared she was back to her busy, happy self.
